If these defects are not identified in time, they may gradually expand in subsequent operation, resulting in leakage or breakage. Ultrasonic testing is a commonly used non-destructive testing method, which is widely used to evaluate the internal defects of welds. This method can identify internal defects such as pores, inclusions, unfused areas and cracks by penetrating pipes and welds with ultrasonic waves. The reflected signal of ultrasonic waves can accurately determine the integrity and continuity of the weld to ensure that there are no internal defects. Ultrasonic testing, with its high sensitivity and accuracy, can effectively detect defects that are not visible to the naked eye, significantly improving the reliability of detection. Ultrasonic testing of welds not only helps to confirm the quality of welding, but also serves as an important basis for subsequent inspection and quality traceability.
Pressure testing is also an indispensable and important testing method after welding. It is mainly divided into water pressure test and air pressure test, which aims to verify the sealing and compressive strength of welds. In the water pressure test, the inside of the pipe is filled with water and a pressure higher than the normal working pressure is applied to observe whether there is leakage or pressure drop. The air pressure test is carried out with air or inert gas to detect the sealing of the weld. The pressure test simulates the pressure environment of the pipeline under actual working conditions to verify whether the weld has sufficient strength and sealing performance to ensure that there will be no leakage or rupture in actual use.
In addition to pressure testing, the mechanical property testing of welds is also crucial. The mechanical properties of welds mainly include tensile strength, bending performance and impact toughness. These performance tests can be carried out by taking sample specimens for mechanical property tests to determine whether the welds meet the design requirements. Good mechanical properties of welds are the basis for the pipeline to not break or deform when subjected to external forces and vibrations. Especially in high pressure and complex working conditions, the mechanical properties of welds are directly related to the safety and service life of the pipeline.
